-Too many hobbies-

I’ve had quite an interesting start to the year so far.

After taking a break from my creative self for many years, I’ve decided that I need to get back into the habit. In the past I’ve: sewn comforters, prom dresses, Halloween costumes, made soaps and lotions and potions, cross stitched, hand-crafted necklaces and earrings, and designed greeting cards. I found that working and going to school full time is a time suck and it’s not left me much time to explore crafty fun.

Well, that’s about to change.

For a start, I am going to teach myself how to crochet! I’m dreaming of wooly wrist warmers and slouchy leg warmers and punk rock scarves and cashmere lovlies.

I’ve already started to sew again, having made some retro looking aprons. I plan to finish a black and white polka dot table runner for the dining room and some pillows for the living room.

On top of all of that, I’ve also taken to embroidery. And I have a crappy camera phone picture to prove it too!

I emboidered my name and everything!

Not bad for my first attempt, huh? Now, if only I could embroider a skull and cross bones neck tie and convince Jon to wear it to work! That would be the real testament to my skills :)

.Once upon a Wintry night.

I know what you’re thinking. Trust me, I’m thinking the same thing. I’ve dedicated my life and soul to a blog (riiiight) but I’ve only written one post. Pathetic, eh? Well, here’s my go at a second post.

This Christmas season was a very, very busy time for me. Not only did I manage to handcraft most of the gifts for my dear friends and co-workers, but I also found the time to bake 3 batches of 4 different kinds of cookies. What can I say? I was swept up in the whirlwind of the season. But, the gigantic smiles and hearty thank you’s made it all worthwhile.

My favorite moment this season?
chef ivy
My cousin Ivy helping my mom and dad make Sopopias on Christmas afternoon.

I have to say, I really felt spoiled this year. Given much thought, I want to share my top three favorite gifts, each from very special people. This first is from my cousin, Kristen.
picnic basket
Whenever I glance at my picnic basket (which is cheerfully on display in my dining room), I can’t wait for the Spring and Summer. I look forward to many afternoons of sandwiches on stale bread and too much cheap wine.

My next favorite gift is courtesy of my mama.
mixer
I’ve wanted a standing mixer forever now, and I am so excited to get my hands dirty.

And lastly, Jon’s gift to me.
Photobucket
How does he know me so well? I had only mentioned that I wanted a record player once a while back, but he knew exactly what to get me. I am one spoiled girl indeed!

I hope that everyone had a blessed holiday and you are all surrounded by friends and loved ones on New Year’s Eve.

Spangly New Blog=Welcome Distraction

It’s the last week of school before finals and I find myself desperately looking for welcome distractions. After finding myself bored with MySpace I happened upon some fascinating blogs. Blogs that amused and inspired me. So what better time than right now, right this moment (when I should be studying Speech and Hearing Anatomy and Physiology) to start a blog?!

I’m not making any promises here. I don’t think I’m going to take the blogging world by storm or anything. But I fully embrace the idea that someone (anyone, please) might find a kindred spirit in my words. Who knows?

Now, where is that textbook…
